I love the fourth of July and I have celebrated the fourth of July at Furman for about five or six years now. I have never been disappointed with it until this year.
They apparently spent all of their money on the new sound system and very little money on the fireworks. The sound system they had installed at the top of the bell tower produced a clear sound that you could from all around the lake. This will be a nice addition to their concert by the lake series.
With that said, I have one word to say about the fireworks, disappointing. There was a heavy rain before the fireworks began and I don’t know if that had something to do with or not. The fireworks show went on for only about 7 minutes and then it was over. Or so everyone thought, it took about five minutes of interlude and seemed to start over again but this time it only lasted for about three minutes.
One staple of the show is the 1812 overture with the cannons firing. Needless to say the cannon’s did not fire this year. I for one wanted my money back.
